Travelling South East Asia: Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

From Taman Negara, we hitched a ride with a few others on a minibus to get to the Perhentian Islands.  This was for sure the craziest drive I have ever been on.  I swear this guy and a couple of other buses were having a race with each other as he flew around corners and passed vehicles of all kinds whenever he wanted.  Vince and I were sick during the drive; Vince because he was really sick, but me because I apparently get motion sickness.

The Perhentian Islands are a backpacking haven.  We did not backpack our trip and learned that it would have been a whole lot easier if we had.  I'm sure we were a sight with all our luggage.  The first night on this island was spent in a room with no air conditioning.  It was a cheap place to stay, but along with no air came no towels, no blankets and no toilet paper.  We made do for the night and found a new place to stay in for the next three nights.  This island was a great place to relax on the beaches, snorkel in the ocean, and just chill out and enjoy life.

Date Night

There are two sides to this island.  One is the quieter side, which is where we stayed, and the other is a bit rowdier after the sun goes down.  While the grandparents stayed with the kids, Paul and I ventured to the other side where we had a wonderful evening, enjoying some drinks and watching a fire show.

Barrie Burger...the original perhaps?!

Boat Tour to 6 Snorkeling Spots

This is the boat we rode around in on a day trip.  Originally they wanted to fit
the 7 of us in a boat this size with 9 other people.  They didn't understand how it
might be unsafe to stuff 16 people into a 12 seater boat.  Paul used his supreme
negotiating skills to talk them into getting us another boat.
He he he!

Snorkelling was a lot of fun here.  We saw sharks, sea turtles, coral, and many
different types of fish.

Jumping from the lighthouse.  The girls did it too,
just no pictures to prove it.
Romantic Beach

Our little slow poke.  Always trailing behind.

New Friends

Absolutely loved seeing these two "argue" with each other.

Bet you didn't think this one would make it on the blog, eh Dad?

Jolene fell into a large crack between two rocks, and she
insisted on getting bandages on every spot that had
any blood.

Our time in Malaysia was complete.  Off to Thailand.
