What We've Been Up To!

Here are some high lights from the last two months.  

Healthy Breakfast

To encourage kids and their parents to eat healthy, the
Kindy department hosted a Healthy Breakfast to show the different options.

JS Assembly

Vincent's class hosted the assembly in February.  He's just
a little apprehensive about being in front of people, so it was fun watching him
attempt (or not attempting in this case) some of the actions for songs.

Vince and Alana, by coincidence, were both chosen to come onto the stage
to help show how to recycle.

K3 Class Trip to Sea World

Jolene and I went along with Alana's class to
Sea World where the kids saw many different types of fish and various sea creatures.

Package Day

We love getting packages in the mail.  The kids loved all the 
little things they received from their wonderful Weening friends.

Book Character Day

Vincent dressed up as a character from the "Hockey Sweater" 

and Alana dressed up as Fancy Nancy.

Jolene at her most peaceful state.  We don't get these
very often any more.

Olympic Hockey!!  Canada vs. Sweden 

We hosted a party for any of the Canadians who wished to watch the game.
We watched it live on a big screen.
Fun to be patriotic when we are so far from home.

Wedding

We had the privilege of attending an Indonesian Wedding.  We were invited
by the parents of the groom who are founders of SPH.
All of the SPH community were invited.

Beautiful decorations, big screens, thousands of people
and a very nice ceremony.

After the wedding we enjoyed a large buffet and delicious desserts.
Upon leaving we received a parting gift, which was a Bolt (a device that
allows you to get wi-fi on your mobile devices wherever you are).

These stryofoam signs are very traditional for Indonesian weddings.
In a sense they are like very large wedding cards, from people or companies, given to the
bride and groom and are displayed outside the wedding hall. There were hundreds of these
signs lined up outside.

Soccer Carnival

This day is one of the high lights of the whole school year.  The entire school, who are split up into four teams named after volcanoes in Indonesia, take a day off of school to compete against each other in a large soccer tournament.  Each team has their own colour as you can see in these pictures.  There is so much energy and excitement during this whole day, it's hard not too look forward to next years Soccer Carnival.

There was an entertainment stage as well.  Alana's class performed
a couple of songs.  So cute!!

When they say carnival, they mean it.  There were not only soccer games to enjoy, but also food vendors, carnival games, a dunk tank, a large inflatable maze, and a slip and slide.

The teachers ended the day off with playing games against each other as well.

 Grade 2 Class Trip to Ragunan Zoo

Right now, at school, Vince's class is learning about endangered animals.  This trip to the zoo was to expose the kids to some of these endangered animals, including orangutans.  It was fun exploring and walking though the dark man-made caves while observing the animals.

Well, that wraps up February and most of March.  March is not quite done yet, so we will see what adventures come our way.
